Cooking with (or without) OIL
When a recipe calls for oil, there are ways that you can get around the cholesterol…
Baking:
- try splitting the oil requirement between oil and applesauce
- you can use 1 egg white per tablespoon of oil as long as you’re not substituting more than one-fourth of the required oil this way
- add ground, milled flax seed to pancakes and waffles, and lower the amount of oil the recipe calls for (this will also add the benefits of Omega 3 and fiber)
- spray baking dish with a healthy cooking spray such as Smart Balance Omega, instead of using oil or butter to coat the pan and prevent sticking
Main Dishes:
- instead of spreading vegetable oil in a pan for sauteeing or brown, spray the pan with a light coating of a cooking spray such as Smart Balance Omega cooking spray. Sprinkle a little ground, milled flax seed over the ingredient as well.
- you can also sautee using water or a fruit preserve
- spray baking dish with a healthy cooking spray such as Smart Balance Omega, instead of using oil
